If there is one thing you should do well, without any errors, it is the resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV). You only get one shot to impress an employer and if the resume / CV is not up to scratch, then your chances of getting that job are as good as the Vatican bringing out their own line of birth control accessories.
So it pays to take a considerable amount of time writing your resume, tweaking it and then tweaking it some more. When you walk into that job interview, your resume / CV must be an absolute masterpiece that William Shakespeare himself would be proud of.
As with all other subjects, the Internet is a vast source of advice on how to write that perfect resume / CV. Some good and some bad. Here are two of the good ones you should consider using.
CeeVee – What I really like about this one is the fact that you can compile it as if you were filling out a social network profile online. You just click on the required boxes, fill out what you want to fill out and then activate your own personalised website URL. Then you can either give the prospective employer the link so they can view it online, or you can print out the resume in PDF format.
You can also connect your Facebook profile so, if you’re feeling a bit lazy, Cee Vee can pull all of your Facebook profile information and automatically insert it into your resume. That’s assuming of course that you are revealing that sort of information on your Facebook profile in the first place.
Free Resume Creator – This one is the exact opposite of CeeVee – plain and absolutely no frills. It takes your information and puts it together in a variety of professional styles for you to preview and print out. There’s no fancy stuff and no Facebook integration – just a simple straight-forward resume generator.
As soon as you have inputted all the necessary information, you either have to download what you have as a non-member, or register on the site for free. Registering on the site allows you to save what you have done, register your resume in a directory for employers to peruse, and also generate a free resume webpage to email to prospective employers.
If you’d rather not go through all that, just go the non-member route and download your resume immediately to your computer in PDF format, text format or HTML format. HTML format allows you to make your own webpage and if you have your own domain, you can upload the HTML file to your site.
So as you can see, there is help available online if you need it and after inputting the necessary details, you can print it out straight from your browser or save it to your hard drive as a PDF file.
